Prince Charles' wife Camilla loses her brother.

Prince Charles' wife Camilla has lost her younger brother, Mark Shand. Mr Shand died yesterday 23th April 2014 after suffering a head injury from a fall outside a hotel in New York.

Police said the 62-year-old auctioneer, fell and hit his head as he tried to re-enter the revolving doors at New York's famous Gramercy Park Hotel after he had been out for a cigarette. He was placed on life support as soon as he reached Bellevue hospital but died 12 hours later.

Lt. John Grimpel of the New York City Police Department said 'Mark Shand attempted to re-enter the hotel through the revolving doors. He unexpectedly fell backwards, striking his head on the pavement. The incident was also captured on the hotel’s video surveillance system.'

Camilla is said to be utterly devastated, and is being consoled by Prince Charles and other family members. Prince William and Kate have issued a statement this morning from Australia saying  'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were saddened to learn this morning of the tragic death of Mark Shand, their thoughts are with the Duchess of Cornwall and her family at this time.'
