A Sharia court sentences HIV positive man to death by stoning.

In Kano State yesterday, an Upper Sharia court sentenced a 63-year-old HIV positive man to death by stoning, for raping and infecting a minor with the deadly virus.

Ubale Saidu Dotsa, was found guilty by the court following strong evidence tendered by the prosecution counsel. He has been standing trial for the last two months, for raping a 12-year-old girl (names withheld), and had confessed that he raped her at Dotsa village in Kumbotso, a suburb of Kano, after inducement.

Medical report tendered by the prosecution counsel indicated that the Primary 6 pupil has been infected with the deadly virus after the rape.

Ubale is said to be living with HIV for the past two years and had lost his first and second wives to the virus in 2011. The wives died in a six month interval.

Delivering the judgement, Khadi Faruq Ahmed further ordered that N36 million be paid as compensation to the parents of the girl if their daughter eventually dies.

Khadi Farouq also directed that the judgement should be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice which is expected to forward same to the Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for assent.
