So you have this friend since high school who you have shared so much of your life with, you consider him your best friend and vice versa, you know all about him (or so you think) and vice versa.
You have had girlfriends from high school but your friend seems shy to approach girls, he has had only one or two girlfriends to your knowledge, you even try to help him get girls but he won’t play. He is smart, very smart, the best student in your class all through. You love and respect him, he is a friend and a brother in one, you could fight and die for him and vice versa.
You would be glad for him to date and marry your younger sister because no one else is better than this cool gentleman to be your sister’s spouse.
You hate gays with a passion. You could kill them if given a chance, you don’t hide your feelings of disgust and contempt for gay people especially not from your friend. He and everyone around you knows how passionately you detest gays.
You are getting married and who else to be your best man? You are dying to match-make him and your sister. Your sister is madly in love with him. You wish your best friend would play ball.
Then one day, soon after your wedding, after 18 years of friendship, your friend calls you into his bedroom looking pensive, you think somebody had died, you couldn’t wait to hear his news.
He is sobbing, his voice hoarse and low, he reiterates his love for you and your family. He cannot imagine life not being your friend, he wants you to forgive him for keeping this from you for so many years.
How could he tell you and ruin the friendship he had with you, which you both cherished?
How could he tell you knowing how passionately you hated gays? How can he marry your sister knowing who he is? How can he continue to live this lie?
He is gay, not proud of it, trying to stop himself, can’t help it, is not attracted to women, is everything you hated and preached against, this person you have loved like a brother for 18 years?

I will keep our friendship, 18 years is not a joke.
Love will overcome
Friends forever.
