A high court grants rights to gays and lesbians in Botswana.
A human rights group, Lesbians, Gays & Bisexuals of Botswana (LEGABIBO) has won a landmark legal case in the High Court of Botswana.
The group has been campaigning for the right to register as an organisation. The ruling now allows them to be officially registered and acquire legal status in the country.
The Department of Labour and Home Affairs had blocked the group from registering as an organization which prompted them to head to the High Court.

The court ruled that the government had acted illegally in banning the group, and gave a final judgment in favour of LEGABIBO group to be officially registered.
The judgement was given at the final court hearing, which held on Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Gaborone High Courts of Botswana and which was presided by Judge Rannowane, who presided over the case, Speaking with BBC, a spokesperson of the group identified as Caine Youngman told the BBC said: ‘I am happy with the judgement – it has sent a message to the government, the entire region and Africa.’...
