The world marks the first year anniversary of the death of Nelson Mandela.


Former South African President Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95 at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg, on 5th December last year.

Today, South Africa and the world celebrates the one year anniversary of his death. A one minute of silence was observed in his memory at the South African Broadcasting Corporation studios in Johannesburg before a briefing by the broadcaster's board chairperson Ellen Tshabalala.

Various events are planned by the family and the government to commemorate the day.
